Axelrod Consulting is headed by Andy Axelrod, who established this software development consulting service in August, 1995. Andy has over 25 years of software development experience ranging from handheld devices to mainframes; low-level system software to end-user applications; research prototypes to shrink-wrapped products; architectural system design to GUI interface design; and all performed in environments ranging from small startups to fortune 500 companies. He has been involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. He is the only full time employee of the business, though he often teams with other independent consultants to perform projects. Following is a brief overview of Andy's background. In 1979, armed with a bachelors degree in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, Andy began his career working for Burroughs Corporation developing database system software and CPU firmware for Burroughs midrange computers. After spending four years at Burroughs, he moved to Apple Computer Inc. to help develop a database server system for Apple's Lisa computer system. This involvement subsequently led Andy to begin developing Macintosh software in late 1983. His first Mac applications were designed to support the production of Macintosh computers at Apple's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Fremont, California, and quickly became some of the most sophisticated, AppleTalk network based applications in the industry. Next, it was on to Apple's Mac System Software group, where Andy was a key member of the team responsible for developing Apple's next generation printing architecture, QuickDraw GX. In 1989, Andy set out with two partners to co-found Gizmo Technologies, where he co-developed two AppleTalk network utilities for the Macintosh. The products, ShadowWriter and Send Express, were distributed world wide, and helped set the standard for easy-to-use, network aware applications. Andy began focusing on a consultant role in 1993, when he began developing Mac, Windows and Newton software for Pharos Technologies, Inc. As an independent consultant today, Andy continues to provide the highest level of professional software development expertise for Mac OS, iPhone, Windows, Windows CE, Palm, Java, BREW and LAMP platforms. His software development contributions have included key software development roles for products shipped by Apple Computer, Philips Electronics, Connectix Corporation, Palm Computing/3Com, Concept Kitchen, Spyglass, palmOne, onedoto and others (see Record of Excellence).
